For those of you following SC House Bill 3949 which
would make my song While I Breathe I Hope/ Dum Spiro Spero, the official South Carolina state choral anthem, I have some good news.On April 28th it passed through the house and is now in the Senate. It has been turned over to the Senate committee on family and veterans affairs.
When the next session starts up, we have until May to get it through committee and onto the floor of the Senate. Thus far, not a single nay vote has been cast.
I would like to say thank you to John Richard Christopher King Adam Duncan (Adam and I are old West- Oak High School classmates)
and Kambrell Garvin for sponsoring this bill, and for every choir out there who has been singing it for the last several years.
Special thanks to the American Choral Directors Association, South Carolina chapter for making this song one of their virtual choir projects.
It does my heart good to see people from all sides coming together to proclaim that while there is breath in our lungs, there is reason to Hope.
That is a message that every Carolina citizen can embrace. Hope carves out enough space for us to dream.
If you would like to know what you could do to help, I have posted a picture of all the members of the senate committee where the bill resides. Also, I have attached a link.
Feel free to contact the chairman, or any member on the committee email them letting them know that you support House Bill 3949.
It's as quick as clicking on their name.
